James R Barry's Profile and Contact Information
We are deeply saddened to announce Jim Barry’s sudden passing on Sunday, August 26, 2018. As many of you know Jim’s life was devoted to Davies-Barry Insurance, being a second generation owner and following in his father’s footsteps. Jim had great plans for our firm and we will be seeing his vision through. Our clients remain our utmost priority as our key leaders pair with Jack Davies to see us through this transition. We will continue to carry on the legacy that has been in Ketchikan for over 100 years. Our sincerest thoughts are with his wife, Margaret Barry, the Barry family, friends of Jim, and our community.
Jim moved to Ketchikan in September 1985 after accepting a position in the Personal Lines department. After learning things on the personal insurance side Jim moved into the Commercial Lines arena. In 1987, Margaret, who is now his wife, relocated from Seattle. She began working for Ketchikan General Hospital, and continues her path with PeaceHealth. While they don’t have any children of their own, they are blessed with & very proud of their three nieces and one nephew, ranging in age from “almost 5” to 29 years old. They enjoy spending time and getting energized when they get together.
In 1998 Jim became an Officer of the Corporation, with ownership interest. He currently holds the President position. Jim has served 10+ years on the Alaska Independent Insurance Agent and Brokers Association. After holding various posts in the association, He served as President in 2007. He has also had the pleasure of serving as a board member on several local associations, and is a member of the Elks.
Jim enjoys living in our close-knit community of Southeast Alaska. Because of our sense of community, we can come together on issues that affect us and our future. He also enjoys the outdoor opportunities afforded us here. When the weather doesn’t cooperate, he will utilize use that time to read - usually something about sports, history or politics.
